Connection & Data transfer methods
01
Connection
How can I pair my LivePen for the first time with my mobile?
The LivePen connects with your phone using Bluetooth.
Please download the LivePen app from the App Store (Apple) or Play Store (Android). Follow the prompts in the LivePen app to complete the one-time pairing process.
Handwritten notes can also be live streamed to the device using an active Bluetooth connection.
How do I pair my LivePen with a different device?
First, download the LivePen app on your new phone, and sign into your account.
When prompted, choose "Connect a pen". Then, follow the instructions in the app to complete the one-time pairing process.
Note: Make sure your LivePen is disconnected from your first phone. We suggest disabling Bluetooth on your first phone, because otherwise your LivePen may connect to it automatically. Your LivePen can only be connected to one device at a time.
Do I have to pair my LivePen every time I start writing?
No, the LivePen needs to be paired only for the first time with any device that you use it with. The pen remembers the device and connects automatically.
02
Managing multiple Bluetooth Connections
How many Bluetooth devices can my smartpen remember and connect automatically to?
The LivePen will store up to 3 devices but can only connect to the Livepen App on one device at a time. The smartpen will always try to connect with the most recent device it was used with. If the most recent device is not available for Bluetooth connection, the smartpen will then automatically try to connect with its two other known devices that it was previously connected with.
What will happen if I pair my smartpen with a fourth device?
If you are trying to pair a fourth device, the smartpen will automatically remove the oldest device from its list and will remember the 3 most recent devices.
03
Syncing and Data Transfer
Will the pen capture data on its own?
Yes, the LivePen has an on-board flash memory and can store up to 20 A5 pages worth of notes in its memory before it gets full. As long as your LivePen has sufficient battery life, it can capture anything that you write on Livescribe notebooks.
Your LivePen data is transferred to your phone when it connects. Data that has already been transferred is backed up to the cloud (providedyou have an internet connection). Once the data is synced, it will be removed from your LivePen to free up memory.
If the pen battery falls below 5%, it will go into sleep mode and will not capture any data. The pen needs to be charged before it can be used again for data capture.
So, just make sure to connect your LivePen at least every 15 pages you write, and keep your battery charged above 20%.
You can check the battery and memory status of your LivePen by connecting it and then tapping the blue pen icon in the LivePen app.
Do I need to always turn my LivePen app ON to capture my handwriting?
No, you do not need to have the LivePen app open all the time. If you open the LivePen app while you use your LivePen, you will see real-time streaming of your handwriting appear.
How can I transfer data from my smartpen to the LivePen App on my device?
As soon as your LivePen connects with the LivePen App, it automatically starts syncing all the data from the pen to the LivePen App. The transfer time varies depending on the amount of data to be transferred, but generally won’t take more than a few minutes even for several pages of writing.
I use my smartpen with multiple devices. How do I transfer data between my devices
All of your data is automatically synced with the cloud and to all of your devices. To get your notes on another device, simply download the LivePen app from the App Store or Play Store and sign into your account on the new device.
