Managing Livescribe Notebooks
01
Introduction
Livescribe offers a wide range of paper products, including single-subject and multi-subject notebooks, A5 spiral notebooks, flip notepads, and pocket-sized journals. These products are designed to work seamlessly with Livescribe smartpens, ensuring precise note-taking and digital storage.

About Livescribe Dot Paper
Livescribe Dot Paper is a specialized paper embedded with nearly invisible microdots that enable smartpens to track writing with pinpoint accuracy. These microdots:
- Allow the pen to recognize the specific page and location of your writing
- Function similarly to a GPS, storing your notes and drawings as digital ink
The microdots are based on patented Anoto technology, consisting of tiny dots arranged on a grid. The dot pattern is unique to each page and ensures the pen's precise tracking. Livescribe Dot Paper is available in various formats, tailored to your needs.

Usage Guidelines for Livescribe Notebooks
To avoid errors while using Livescribe Dot Paper products, follow these guidelines:
- Avoid Using Two Notebooks with the Same Dot Pattern: If two notebooks have identical patterns (same type and number), the pen will combine notes and audio from both, leading to confusion.
- Archive Before Starting a New Notebook: If you must use a notebook with the same dot pattern, Archive the old one first:
- Open the LivePen app
- Navigate to the notebook you want to archive
- Tap the 3-dots button on the notebook
- Tap Archive and confirm
- After you Archive a notebook in the app, additional handwriting in notebooks with the same dot pattern won't appear in that notebook anymore. Instead, they will appear in a new copy of the notebook inside the app. Currently, archiving can't be undone.
- Check Notebook Volume Numbers: When purchasing notebooks, choose ones with different volume numbers than those you're already using.
Note: These guidelines apply to all Livescribe Dot Paper products, including notebooks, journals, flip notepads, and sticky notes.

About Livescribe Dot Paper Naming
Livescribe identifies paper products using a combination of type (e.g., lined, unlined, or grid) and a number (e.g., 1 to 8). Key points to remember:
- Group: Each notebook belongs to a group based on format and form factor (e.g., lined notebooks, spiral notebooks)
- Number: Within a group, notebooks with the same number share the same dot pattern. Notebooks with different numbers have distinct patterns
05
Using Notebooks with the Same Group and Number
If you own two Livescribe notebooks with the same group and number (e.g., two Lined Notebook #3s), follow these steps:
- Use one notebook at a time
- Archive the first notebook before starting the second
Example: If you finish Lined Notebook #1 and need to reuse a second Lined Notebook #1, archive the first before starting the new one.

Tips for Notebook Packs
Livescribe notebooks are often sold in numbered packs (e.g., Notebooks 1-4 or 5-8). To ensure proper use:
- Use all notebooks in the first pack before starting the second
- Verify that the numbers on the covers differ when purchasing multiple packs. For example, use Notebooks 1-4 and 5-8 before buying another set of 1-4 or 5-8
