LED Status Indicators
01
Common Indicators
- Solid Green (not plugged into power)
The LivePen is active and ready for use on Livescribe Paper. Your LivePen will capture your handwriting. It is not connected to any Bluetooth device.
- Solid Blue
The LivePen is connected to the app via Bluetooth. It will sync its data to your phone and also livestream anything you write to the Livepen app.
- Pulsing Orange (plugged into power)
The pen is charging via a USB power source. Tip: A full charge takes approximately 2 hours.
- Solid Green (plugged into power)
Charging complete and pen is ready to use.
- Blinking Red (plugged into power)
The pen is in pre-charging mode due to a completely drained battery. Solution: Leave the pen connected to a charger for 20-40 minutes to allow it to power up. After this time, the indicator should begin pulsing orange. If it continues to blink red, try unplugging and plugging the LivePen back in.
02
Warning Indicators
- Blinking Red (x3 with sound)
Indicates an error while writing (e.g., improper writing angle, full memory, or unrecognized writing surface). Solution: Ensure correct writing angle, connect your LivePen to the app to clear memory, and make sure you're using Livescribe-compatible paper.
- Solid Orange
The battery is critically low (10% or less). Charge immediately. Note: At 5%, the pen will shut down with a beep and stop capturing notes.
03
Other Uncommon Indicators
- Blinking Blue
The pen is in pairing mode and ready to connect with a new device. Under normal circumstances, this will only happen briefly when pairing with a new device, under instructions from the LivePen app. If you see the pen blinking blue at other times, try putting the cap on and taking it off.
- Pulsing Blue
The pen is attempting to reconnect with its last paired device. If your pen gets stuck in this status, please contact us.

Common Troubleshooting
Why is my pen blinking red when connected to a charger?
This indicates pre-charging mode due to a completely drained battery. Leave it plugged in for 20-40 minutes until the LED pulses orange. If it doesn't turn orange by itself after 40 minutes, try unplugging and plugging back in.
What should I do if the memory is full?
Connect the pen to the Livepen app to sync the data stored in your pen to your device. After the sync, your pen memory will be cleared automatically and it will be able to record your writing again.
